Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities/Delays

Los Pasitos provides early intervention services to children ages birth to three years that are at risk for or that have a developmental delay or disability. Los Pasitos partners with families to nurture and advocate for their child’s development through coaching and modeling in their natural environment so that parents and caregivers can support their child to reach their full potential. All early intervention services are free to families.

Serve infants and toddlers under the age of 3, and pregnant women. EHS programs provide intensive comprehensive child development and family support services to low-income infants and toddlers and their families, and to pregnant women and their families.

Region 9 Developmental Services Program provides comprehensive developmental and early intervention activities that benefit families and children from birth through age three who have or may be at risk for developmental delays. Some options of this program include family counseling and education; health services; Child Find and screening services; assessment and evaluation services; special instruction provided by developmental specialists; nutritional consultation; occupational, physical, speech, and language therapy; transportation; family service coordination; and respite care services. An Individual Family Service Plan is developed for each child and family based upon determined needs.

CDD Early Intervention with a team of professionals work with families to help them understand and address all concerns in developing an individual service plan that fits their lifestyle to include the child's everyday activities in their family and community setting. They offer Developmental Screening, Evaluations, Respite Care, Service Coordination, Speech-Language Therapy, and Physical Therapy. Other services include Hearing Screening, Infant Massage Instruction, Early Intervention Team Home Visits, Educational/Informational Resources, Transition/Advocacy, and General Family Support. Services offed to children aged birth to 3 in who lives in Colfax, Harding, Mora, or San Miguel counties.

Roundtree Children’s Developmental Services provides early intervention to all San Juan County families with children birth to three who exhibit a delay, may be at risk for a delay, or who are involved with the New Mexico Children’s Youth and Families Department. Roundtree’s services include family service coordination, developmental instruction, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, and outreach services in conjunction with the New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as the New Mexico School for the Deaf. Services are provided at no cost to families.

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NMSBVI) provides statewide direct services to families of young children who have a diagnosed visual impairment or who are considered to be at risk for receiving a VI diagnosis. Services are a partnership with NMSBVI, New Mexico’s Family, Infant, Toddler Program (FIT), and the Navajo Nation; all children are served by IFSP team decision. Services are delivered in the family home or in another community environment that supports the child and his/her family.

The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was launched on July 1, 2020. Their mission is to optimize the health, development, education, and well-being of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through a family-driven, equitable, community-based system of high-quality prenatal and early childhood programs and services. They organize a range of programs including: child care services, early childhood special education, Early Head Start and Head Start, Families FIRST program, Family Infant Toddler (FIT) program, the family nutrition bureau, home visiting programs, and NM PreK.

Blue Star's Therapy provides home, community, and center-based early intervention therapy services for young children with Autism and other developmental delays using the Early Start Denver Model Curriculum. Services include ESDM Services, Parent Empowerment Program, The Blue School, Speech-Language Pathology, ABA: Behavioral Intervention, Occupational Therapy, Consultation, and Educational Setting Observation. Bilingual services are also available.

Ensuenos y Los Angelitos provides early childhood and adult services. Adult Services include Living Supports - Family Living, Community Integrated Employment, Customized Community Supports, Living Supports - Supported Living, and Respite Services. Child Services include Special Instruction & Developmentally Appropriate Activities, Service Coordination, Speech & Language Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Vision Services, Hearing Services, Nutrition Services, Social Work Services, Psychological Services, Family Education & Counseling, Medical-Related to Diagnosis & Evaluation, Nursing Services, Health Services, Transportation Service, Respite, and Center-Based Playgroup - Ages 2-3 years of age.

Early Intervention services provide parents and families of children ages 0 to 3 years old with resources and services to identify and treat developmental delays. While no two children develop in the exact same way or even at the same rate, there are key milestones that indicate growth and development. Milestones include crawling, walking, and speaking. EI services are funded by the Family Infant Toddler Program of New Mexico. All qualifying children in the state receive free EI services regardless of income, health insurance, or citizenship status. The Alberta House has a trained professional staff of therapists, service coordinators, and diagnosticians who visit families in their homes to provide quality care and assistance.

Zia Therapy provides Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). ECI is a service for families of children (birth to 3 years of age) with developmental delays, disabilities, or certain medical diagnoses that could impact the child's development. This service is provided at no cost to the family, as part of the federal Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program. Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) are developed in collaboration with the family and Zia's ECI professionals help to identify goals and strategies to meet these goals. Types of services include developmental screening (birth-3 yrs); developmental evaluations; evaluations and therapy for speech/language, physical, occupational therapy, and nutrition; cognitive intervention; and functional vision services.

The Navajo Nation Growing In Beauty program (GIB) meets the needs of Navajo children with delays or disabilities from birth to five years of age while honoring the unique culture and language of the Navajo people. The Growing In Beauty staff provides service coordination and direct services. Services include receiving and processing referrals from pediatricians, health care professionals, and other service providers. Providing developmental assessment and evaluation for at-risk children along with GIB Partnership Program staff from Northern Arizona University-Institute of Human Development (NAU IHD), St. Michaels Association for Special Education (SMASE), and University New Mexico Center for Development and Disability (UNM CDD). GIB also makes referrals and ensuring that support and services are provided via a Team-Based approach by Early Intervention specialists, provides transition supports into appropriate early childhood settings or preschool programs, ongoing developmental screening and family support, and advocacy and training for families. Las Cumbres Community Services, Inc. began in 1970 with a structured program of day habilitation services for developmentally disabled adults residing in Los Alamos. We added a therapeutic preschool for children in the Española Valley in 1979. Services for children, adults, and families have continued to expand since then in order to best meet the growing and changing needs of Northern New Mexico. Our offices are located in Española, Los Alamos, Taos, and Santa Fe. In 2019 Las Cumbres expanded to the Borderland Region of Las Cruces, El Paso, and Ciudad Juarez. Today, the agency is one of the largest social service providers in New Mexico. Direct services are offered in Rio Arriba, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Taos Counties, and along the Borderland region, while education, outreach, and referral activities make a strong impact throughout the state and country.

Aprendamos Intervention Team is a therapist-run organization that serves children and families’ needs through early intervention. Team services include speech-language, occupational, physical, and family therapists. A nurse, nutritionist, family services coordinators, developmental instructions, infant massage therapists, and pediatric specialists are also available. Mental health clinicians specializing in play therapy interventions, MDMR, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and more. The Autism program has 16 Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) and about 50 Registered Behavior Therapists (RBT).

ENMRSH, Inc. provides services to enhance the lives of adults with differing abilities and supports the development of children and families in our programs. Adult Services include: Community Integrated Employment Services, Customized Community Supports, Customized In-Home Supports, Environmental Modification Services, Independent Living Transition Services, Living Supports – Family Living, Supported Living, Intensive Medical Living, Non-Medical Transportation Services, Adult Nursing Services – Nursing Assessment and Consultation (LPN and RN), Personal Support Technology, Respite Services. Child Services include Early Childhood Services (FIT: Family Infant Toddler Program), Home Visiting, Infant Mental Health & Parent-Infant Psychotherapy, and Respite. Eligibility/Ages: No first-time parent requirements. Enroll prenatal until child is 3 years old. Serves Curry, De Baca, and Roosevelt Counties.

Amplified Therapy is a New Mexico Family Infant Toddler provider in Catron, Grant, Hidalgo, and Luna Counties. The NM FIT program provides early intervention services and supports to families of children aged birth to three who have or who are at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. In addition to working with the FIT program, ATI also provides occupational and speech-language pathology services to various school districts in southwestern New Mexico and southeastern Arizona.

The UNM CDD FOCUS Early Intervention Program (formerly known as Los Pasos, SELECTT and GRO) provides supports and services for families of children with developmental delays aged birth through 3 years of age. Services are not limited to children with disabilities but also include children experiencing delay due to family substance use, violence, low birth weight, parental mental illness, prematurity, pre-natal exposure to drugs and alcohol, and unsupported teen parenting. FOCUS offers developmental assessments, early intervention services (service coordination, developmental guidance, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech and language therapy services), referrals, infant mental health services, and primary care and access to a family medical home. The service delivery team includes pediatricians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, service coordinators, developmental specialists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists. Services are available in both English and Spanish.

Native American Professional Parent Resources, (NAPPR) Inc. is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was founded in 1981 as a joint project between the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the New Mexico Department of Health to provide early intervention services to Native American families with young children experiencing developmental delays. Since that time, NAPPR has established itself as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and grown from serving approximately 30 Native American children/families in 6 Pueblo communities to serving 400+ Native and Non-Native American families across a four county area. In addition to direct services to families with young children in these four counties, NAPPR also serves a much wider geographic range through the Albuquerque Area Dental Support Center.

At Inspirations, our early intervention services are provided to children from birth to 3 years old with or at risk for having developmental delays or disabilities. We provide transdisciplinary services in the home or community to address children's individual needs. Our services are funded partially through the New Mexico Department of Health Family Infant Toddler Program. We provide our services at no cost to families. The Native American Professional Parent Resources, (NAPPR) Inc. Early Intervention program is a home or community-based service. NAPPR provides personalized support to families to help identify and answer questions or concerns that the family may have about their infant or toddler. The NAPPR team comes directly to the family to provide ideas, information, and support that fits into the family’s day to day activities. All services are free and based on family’s preferences. Possible qualifying conditions: infants and toddlers with an established condition such as cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, hearing loss, vision loss, etc. Infants and Toddlers who have or are at risk for a developmental delay or health concerns. Infants and toddlers with a medical risk such as prematurity (less than a 32 week gestation), low birth weight, chronic ear infections, cleft lip and palate etc. They also provide supports to those who have had Children, Youth & Family Department (CYFD) involvement, history of drug use, mental illness or homelessness.

Abrazos Family Support Services is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Their programs include Infant/Toddler Services, Autism Services, Autism Recreational Respite, Autism After School Program, Respite Services, and Family Living. Children from birth up to age three are eligible for Early Intervention services including Family Service Coordination, Developmental Instruction, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and Family Counseling. Respite is a service to families who are in need of a short break from their natural caregiving duties of a child or an adult who is diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability. The Family Living Program provides support to adults diagnosed with a developmental delay or disability to remain living in their own home, their family home, or a surrogate home.

Alta Mira provides a range of services to individuals who have been diagnosed with a disability, or who may be experiencing conditions which could cause a significant delay in their development. Families receive help and support to assist them in making sure their loved one reaches their full potential. Alta Mira provides both Early Childhood Services (for children age zero-three) and Family Support Services. Family Support Services include respite, family living, in-home living supports, community supports, Mi Via Waiver and exceptional family member program.

Dungarvin New Mexico, LLC has been a provider since 1994 and currently provides services for more than 140 individuals. Supported living, residential and day services are provided within the following counties: Bernalillo, Cibola, McKinley, and San Juan. In addition, family living services are provided in the following counties: Cibola and San Juan. Family, Infant, and Toddler (FIT) Program services are provided in McKinley county, including Zuni Pueblo.

Tobosa Developmental Services in Southeast New Mexico provides services to individuals living with developmental disabilities. Services include day-hab, family living, assisted living, employment services, respite services, and a more intensive Supported Living program that offers 24-hour guidance to students with developmental disabilities. Supported Living is a safe home where students can build skills for independent living, while at the same time receiving the support they currently need to perform tasks of daily living such as eating, bathing, taking medication, meal preparation, laundry and grocery shopping. Tobosa Developmental Services works together with its two sister charities to support children and adults. Los Pasitos provides Early Intervention services to children aged birth-3 years, and Little Steps Learning Center provides childcare and education for children aged 1-12 years.

Tresco, Inc. has offices in Las Cruces, Socorro, and Truth or Consequences. Services include Tresco Works, which provides work opportunities to persons with varying disabilities, and development and skills training for upward employment to people that work; Children's Services, through Tot's Early Intervention Program (ages 3 and under, evaluations and hands-on help in the setting where the child is, i.e. home, daycare, etcetera) and Day One Home Visiting Program (supports families from prenatal through age 3, for free- no eligibility requirements).

MECA Therapies, LLC is a NM Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Early Intervention provider, serving children birth to 3 years old. They also provide children's outpatient therapy for ages 3 to 21 (not available in Clovis); Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for children ages 2 to 21; and several home visiting programs for prenatal to 3 years old. Bilingual services are also provided. They have offices in Las Cruces, Hobbs, Clovis, and Roswell. They accept a variety of private and Medicaid-based insurance plans. All MECA therapies services can be conducted via in-person or telehealth visits as of April 2022.

An individual can make a referral to the Family Infant Toddler (FIT) Program if they are concerned about their child's development. If the local FIT Provider agency in an individual's county is contacted, they will set up a time to meet and complete a developmental evaluation for the child. Please see the FIT Providers List for a current index of provider agencies. They can play an important part in a child’s evaluation. Evaluation team members will talk to the individual about their child’s strengths and needs and will ask for an individual to be involved in the assessment activities.

At LifeROOTS we focus on individuals and their specific needs. Our adult clients with disabilities and families have access to day habilitation (day hab), supported employment, job coaching, job development, literacy programs and much more. We offer children and families free early childhood intervention screenings, assessments and services from birth to age 3. We also offer other therapeutic and support services for children with disabilities including parenting classes, therapeutic and behavioral services and much more.

New Vistas provides disability support and advocacy, independent living skills training, peer support, early intervention, and Information & Referral Services. Services are offered in the nine northern New Mexico counties including Colfax, San Miguel, Harding, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Taos, Rio Arriba, Union, and Mora. They are a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability, nonresidential private nonprofit agency based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, proving an array of independent living serves

Region 9 Developmental Services Program provides comprehensive developmental/early intervention activities that benefit the families and children from birth through age three who have or may be at risk for developmental delays. All services are designed to educate, support, and strengthen the child's primary caregiver in the decision-making process regarding the developmental intervention services. Staff members work with families to identify the outcome desired for the child and explore the strategies to achieve that outcome.

Provides a parent implemented, intensive, evidence-based early intervention program for young children with autism. PLAY Project services can be located here.

The PLAY Project is based on the DIR® (Developmental, Individualized, Relationship-based) theory of Stanley Greenspan, MD and Serena Weider PhD, and emphasizes the importance of helping parents become their child’s best play partner.

Provides education for families in identifying development milestones in children from birth to 5 years old.
